Paid only listings or self serving plus paid listings dimishes the overall quality of the directory. Each industry category should provide a complete unbias database of information. Too many directories try to build the entire directory as a profit center from day one. The better directories provide useful results to users long before the generate any profits from paid listings.

The open directory project (ODP) dmoz.org is over rated and it’s value has dimished over the past several years.
